Reflecting on 9/11
I was 11 years old in the 7th grade on September 11, 2001. I’ll never forget being in history class, ironically, then being told that we all we needed to line up in the hall way because we were going to the library to watch the news.
Remember, this was 22 years ago. We didn’t have cell phones on us where we could log on to Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram to see the latest news. Back then we consumed all of our news from the television & the coolest phone we had was a Nokia that our parents had where we could play snake.
As our class entered the room we started to notice other classes being ushered in to sit in front of the roll away TV. Another Iconic piece of history. We all watched in fear & confusion as the towers began to fall. Thinking back on it, that day was kind of a blur. I remember someone, maybe our principal, coming in to talk about what was happening the best that they could. Then, I remember watching the news the rest of the day until it was time to go home.
After school, I remember having baseball practice. A lot of teammates had tons of question for our coaches. So after practice my dad and the other coaches did the best they could to answer them.
Being an adult now, and having coached kids, I can’t imagine what it was like for our parents, teachers, and anyone who was in a leadership roll to experience this, then having to find the answers for so many kids when they were just as scared and confused as we were.
Our leaders that were in our circle during this time deserve a lot of credit. They deserve a lot of credit for stepping up the best way they knew how. So, for that, thank you to all of the parents, and teachers that helped raise us.
Also, to the service men & women who’ve fought on our behalf, THANK YOU!
Thank you for all of the sacrifices that you had to endure over the years.
Lastly, to the men and woman who lost their lives on 9/11 (2,977) & to the brave service members who gave the ultimate sacrifice (7,000+), we thank you and honor you today and everyday.
Never Forget. 🇺🇸
