5 Best Back Exercises For Building Muscle
Back day has got to be my favorite day of the week to workout. There’s no better feeling than getting an additional pump in your biceps while also getting your back stronger.
It can be very motivating seeing a good bicep pump after doing a set of chest supported rows or lat pulldowns.
Speaking of back exercises. While I sit here trying to think about what exercises i’m doing today, I thought I would share my top 5 back exercise before I head off to the gym.
My favorite is definitely the hardest which is a simple pull-up. Simple but very humbling if you don’t practice them.
Number 2 would have to be deadlifts. This exercise probably isn’t one that would come to mind, but it works your entire posterior chain & will definitely help you build a very strong back.
Third, is going to be chest supported rows. I’ll never forgot the first time I pulled a muscle in my lower back I was doing bent over barbell rows. I was around 19 and thought I was invincible. So I threw on 135 with no belt and not knowing how to do Intra-abdominal bracing & instantly pulled a muscle in my lower back. It took me a solid 2-3 weeks before I was back to normal. For the next 3 days it took everything I had just to get up out of bed. So that’s why I prefer the chest supported row.
Fourth on my list is lawnmower pulls. This exercise is a great isolation movement & you don’t have to go heavy in order to feel a great pump in your lats. Keep the tempo nice and slow.
Lastly #5, seated row. Talk about an ego lift. After a few good sets i’ll put the pin to almost the bottom rack, rep out a few sets & call it a day.
Speaking of calling it a day, i’m going to wrap up this blog and head to the gym.
Hopefully this will give you a few exercise ideas for your next back day. Enjoy!
